Airbrushing wooden beams at the Steenbergerhoeve in Zuidwolde

Flat roof renovated in Assen for optimal protection, watertightness, and a longer lifespan.

At the Steenbergerhoeve in Zuidwolde, we removed old paint layers from the wooden beam structure using air blasting. The photos clearly show that the beams regain their natural wood structure after the treatment. The original appearance of the wood becomes visible, while the structure remains intact. This method is particularly suitable for characteristic buildings where the preservation of authentic materials is important.

Removing old paint layers without damaging the wood

Over the years, the beams had been covered with multiple layers of paint, rendering the original wood virtually invisible. These layers are removed in a controlled manner using air blasting. A fine blasting medium is applied under low pressure, causing the paint to disappear without unnecessarily damaging the wood.

The difference between the original painted beams and the cleaned wood is clearly visible in the photos. The natural grain and pattern reappear, restoring the structure's character.

Ideal technique for monumental and characteristic buildings

Air blasting is an effective technique for wooden beams, ceilings, and other historical wooden components. Because the treatment is much less aggressive than traditional sanding or blasting, the surface remains in good condition. This makes this method particularly suitable for renovation projects where the preservation of original building materials is paramount.

For the Steenbergerhoeve, this was an important step in the renovation. By completely removing the old finish, a clean base is created for a potential new protective layer or further restoration work.

Neat preparation for the next renovation phase

During the work, care was taken to clean the wooden structure evenly. This results in a smooth finish while preserving the natural appearance of the wood. The beams are now free of old paint layers and ready for the next phase of the renovation.

With this treatment, the authentic character of the Steenbergerhoeve in Zuidwolde has been preserved. The wooden beams have regained their original appearance and once again form a valuable part of the historic building.
