Concrete decay occurs because moisture reaches the reinforcement in the concrete. The steel bars begin to rust. Rust expands, causing the surrounding concrete to crack and crumble. This is called reinforcement corrosion, and it is a process that accelerates once it begins.
In older buildings, carbonation plays a role. The concrete gradually loses its protective properties, and the reinforcement becomes vulnerable to moisture. You can see this in the form of rust-brown streaks on the surface, cracks that follow the pattern of the reinforcement, or chunks of concrete breaking off.
Postponing concrete repair is not an option. Not only will the repair become larger and more expensive, but it also becomes a safety issue. Falling chunks of concrete from a balcony or gallery pose an immediate risk.
This is how we repair concrete damage
Concrete damage cannot be fixed with a coat of paint. The cause lies deeper, in the reinforcement beneath the surface. That is why we tackle the repair in four steps, from inspection to a durable finish.
Inspection and damage assessment
We assess the concrete damage on site. Where necessary, we measure the concrete cover and check the condition of the reinforcement. Based on this, we draw up a repair plan.

Remove damaged concrete
We chip away the affected concrete down to beyond the reinforcement. All loose parts and corrosion are carefully removed. What remains is a sound substrate.

Treat reinforcement
We derust the exposed reinforcement and apply a protective primer. Is the reinforcement too severely corroded? Then we weld in new bars.

Apply repair mortar
Using special repair mortar, we rebuild the concrete to the correct dimensions. After curing, the surface is finished and, if desired, provided with a protective coating.
